Small Appliances

One of the great inventions in the past 20 years has been the introduction of small appliances. Most often associated with kitchen tasks, these items have evolved from simple to sophisticated over the years. Whether you're an avid cook or someone who rarely enters the kitchen there are a few kitchen accessories you just can't be without. Although not necessarily a small appliance, the microwave is probably the first thing you'll want for your kitchen.


There are microwave ovens by names like KitchenAid and GE that start at under $50 and do a fantastic job of heating foods. Microwaves can be used for defrosting, re-heating leftovers, cooking raw foods, even steaming foods thanks to the new crop of cheap and easy to use food steaming bags on the market from manufacturers such as Ziploc, found in the same aisle as the sandwich and freezer bags. Although microwaves can do a lot, there are some things they can't do.

For example, you will probably also need a coffee maker, that is if you enjoy a morning cup of java. Coffee makers, like most all other kitchen appliances, range from inexpensive basic models to costly models packed with features. Toasters and toaster ovens are other items you'll want for the kitchen...after all you might like a bagel or toast with your coffee. For smoothie lovers a blender is a necessity. These days you can actually get blenders made for the purpose of whipping up smoothies. Food preparation such as chopping, grating and dicing is also made easy, thanks to the food processor. While Cuisinart is the most famous brand of food processor there are plenty others.

While these are probably the most popular small appliances for the kitchen, they are by no means the only ones. A few more examples of accessories you may need for your cooking area include the waffle maker, deep fryer, slow cooker, electric hand mixer, wok, slow cooker and ice cream maker. For people who love to cook a kitchen stocked with the latest small appliances is a dream come true. You can buy kitchen appliances for your household at home improvement stores, discount department stores and online small home appliance stores. There are plenty of online merchants both big and small who can help meet your small appliance needs.
